What Is a Design Proof and Why Does It Matter?

A Design Proof is a digital preview of your personalised design sent before production so you can check the visible details before they become permanent. For AtaNova products that use this approval step, the proof is sent by email and nothing is engraved or laser cut until the design is approved.

The proof is not a second product or a physical sample. It is the approval view for the personalisation: names, dates, wording, photo treatment, layout and other visible details supported by the selected product.

What should you check on a Design Proof?

Review the proof as though the visible design were already on the finished piece. Check every detail that applies to your product, not only the largest name or image.

  • Names and wording: spelling, capitals, accents, punctuation and line breaks.
  • Dates and numbers: day, month, year, optional time, measurements and units where the selected design uses them.
  • Location: city, venue or other place exactly as you want it shown.
  • Photo and line art: correct image, recognisable main subject, useful crop and balanced placement.
  • Overall layout: the relationship between image, names, dates and any short message.

What does the Design Proof not confirm exactly?

A digital preview confirms artwork and layout. It cannot act as an exact physical sample of natural material variation, screen-to-material colour, tactile texture, real-world scale or illuminated brightness in a particular room.

Use the relevant product page for the current dimensions, materials, light options, included components and care information. Use the Design Proof to approve the personalised composition.

Can you request a correction?

Yes. If a reasonable correction is needed, reply to the proof email before approval. This can include correcting spelling, changing a date format, refining short wording or making a reasonable layout adjustment.

A correction to the submitted design is different from replacing the order with a completely different product or concept. If the requested change falls outside the selected product or its supported personalisation, it may need separate review.

What happens after approval?

Approval confirms that the visible personalised design is ready to move into production. The approved artwork can then be engraved or laser cut in our atelier in Antwerp. Once permanent personalisation has been produced, those engraved or cut details cannot simply be edited like a digital file.

That is why the proof should be checked carefully before approval. If something is wrong, raise it before the design is approved rather than relying on a later correction.

Does a slow reply matter?

Yes. The approval step sits before production, so an unanswered proof or a later correction request can affect the order schedule. No separate production-time promise is added here; use the current product and checkout information for the order's applicable timing.

Design Proof versus the full ordering process

This guide explains the approval checkpoint only. For the complete path from choosing a product through personalisation, approval, production and delivery, use AtaNova's How It Works page.

If you are still deciding which lamp format matches the information you want to personalise, read Personalised Lamps Explained or browse the personalised lamps collection.

Final Design Proof checklist

  • Correct names and spelling?
  • Correct dates, numbers and location where applicable?
  • Correct photograph and recognisable subject where applicable?
  • Correct wording, punctuation and line breaks?
  • Balanced layout with nothing important missing?

Approve only when the visible personalised details are correct. The value of the Design Proof is that you can review the complete composition before engraving or laser cutting makes it permanent.
